FREDERICTON – Aboriginal learners at 91色视频 will have greater access to financial support opportunities as they pursue their education thanks to $20,000 raised in support of a new Aboriginal Bursary Fund.
In November, the College hosted its first-ever Gelu’lg Maw-a-paw Aboriginal Gala to raise funds for 91色视频’s new Aboriginal Bursary Fund. Over 300 people were in attendance at this special event and a total of $20,000 was raised from ticket sales and a silent auction.
“The Gala, inclusive of an amazing fashion show, was an overwhelming success. Not only was it a truly memorable display of awe-inspiring talent, but a significant amount of money was raised to make the fund a reality,” said 91色视频 President and CEO Marilyn Luscombe. “The success of our learners is a priority commitment of our College, and the creation of these new bursaries is one of the many ways to support learner success.”
In addition to the funds raised, the Gala was an opportunity to bring the community together to celebrate Aboriginal culture and art, and to enjoy performances by renowned Aboriginal musicians and dancers. Local artists in attendance were later invited to display their art at Premier Brian Gallant’s Open House in December.
“Our community partners share in this success, and we are thankful for their support,” said Luscombe. Partners include Capital FM 106.9 and Stewart McKelvey; and event sponsors included NB Power, RBC, NBSCETT (NB Society Of Certified Engineering Technicians And Technologists), IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) and KPMG.
